According to the 2011 census estimates, San Antonio (Bexar County) is the 3rd largest metro area in Texas, making up approximately 8.1% of the state’s population. Unfortunately, in 2008, abortions in Bexar County comprised more than 11.5% of the state’s total.

In 2008, there were 7,313 abortions performed in Bexar County, which ranked 3rd in the state. For Bexar County, that equates to about 20 lives lost every day.

Women between the age of 15 – 30 were responsible for 75% of the total abortions in Bexar county, with over 35% of this subgroup being between the ages of 20 – 24, women between 25 – 29 years old were responsible for almost 27% of the total abortions.

For the years 2002 – 2005, over 20% (1 in 5) pregnancies in Bexar county ended with abortion.

In the state of Texas, over 91% of abortions are performed at abortion facilities (as opposed to doctor’s office, hospitals, etc.)
